2025 Ngwa Day Celebration to Feature Symposium, Other Colourful Activities

Organisers of the Ngwa Day Celebration, a celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Ngwa Nation, have announced programme of event for the 2025 edition.

A statement signed by Dr. Chukwuma Ahiaraumunna Offor (FCA), Chairman, Ngwa Day 2025 Planning Committee, and issued to Journalists on Friday, said the event will begin with Ngwa Day Rally slated for Friday, December 26, 2025 at Okpuala Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa North, LGA, Abia State, the ancestral capital of Nde Ngwa and end at Aba, accompanied by a colourful and energetic rally to mobilize Ngwa sons and daughters and kick-start the celebrations with unity and pride.

The statement revealed that on Saturday, December 27, 2025, there will be Ngwa Day Symposium, themed: “NGWANESS”, Ụmụnna Ehila” (Collective Progress lies in Communal Fraternal Bond, venue is at Hotel Du Golf, No.1-3, Margaret Avenue, GRA, Aba, Abia State while time is 2.00pm.

According to the organisers, this session will feature thought-provoking gathering of intellectuals, cultural custodians, youth leaders, and stakeholders who will explore the meaning of “Ngwaness” and its relevance in contemporary society.

Giving further insights on programmes lined up for the epoch making event, Ahiaraumunna added that Sunday, December 28th, 2025 will mark the Grand Finale of NGWA DAY Celebration which will be held at Ngwa High School, Aba, Abia State while the statement puts the time at 12.00 noon.

He stated that the grand finale will be an admixture of cultural renaissance featuring traditional dances, masquerades, music, arts,
exhibitions, community awards, and empowerment sessions, revealing that the climax of the festivities will be the recognition of sons and daughters of Ngwa land for their contributions to development and heritage preservation.

While highlighting the essence of the celebration, Ahiaraumunna stated that the Ngwa Day Celebrationis, is a momentous occasion that showcases the rich cultural heritage and unity of the Ngwa people, adding that Ngwaness as an ideology, connotes the awesome goodness of the Ngwa people.

According to the statement, the celebration revolves around Ngwa centric ideology that puts Ngwa causes above self-interest and individualistic pursuits and emphasizes the collective and common good of the Ngwa people.

Ahiaraumunna said the Ngwaness finds expression in communal participation of development pursuits, hence the common saying in Ngwa land “Umunna Ehila”, emphasising that
Ngwa Day is a practical expression of the concept of Ngwaness.

The statement informed that the celebration is a fall out of the resolution at the 50th anniversary of Ngwa Social Club at Aba Sports Club in 2023 that every 28 December be set aside to celebrate the values and heritage as a conscious effort in addressing the challenges posed by the assault on the people’s way of life by colonialism, neocolonialism, modernity and an attempt to maintain a balance between these competing forces.

The statement reads,”Ngwa Day is a celebration of the Ngwa spirit, which embodies resilience, honesty, hard work and communal solidarity.This year’s event promises to be an unforgettable experience, featuring traditional dances, music, masquerades’ displays, art and cultural exhibitions that highlight the Ngwa people’s history and traditions”.

According to Ahiaraumunna, the celebration promotes Ngwa culture and values, foster unity and solidarity among indigenes and friends, showcase Ngwa rich heritage to a global audience as well as promote economic development and youth empowerment.

Guests expected at the epoch making event include: Traditional rulers and royal fathers, top government officials and political leaders, Ngwa community leaders from the diaspora, Cultural icons, ambassadors, youth representatives, and friends of Ngwa land.
