Abia Targets Stronger Bilateral Ties as State Hosts Abia-Turkiye Investment Summit

Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment Promotion and Public Private Partnership (PPP), High Chief Jerome Green-Amakwe, says the core objective of the forthcoming Abia Investment Summit is to strengthen bilateral relations between Turkey, Abia, and Nigeria at large.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia, Chief Amakwe said the summit will also showcase products and services to the expanding African market, while creating opportunities for Business-to-Business (B2B) engagements that will connect investors, exporters, and local enterprises and promote trade

cooperation and strategic joint ventures.

Welcoming the press to the briefing on preparations for the Abia–Turkiye Investment Summit/Product Exhibition, Amakwe expressed gratitude to the Abia media for their consistent support for the New Abia agenda under Governor Alex Chioma Otti (OFR).

He explained that the state government, through the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, is hosting the international summit scheduled for November 25–27, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, with the theme: “Bridging Continents, Unlocking Prosperity.”

According to him, the summit has been strategically designed to attract both local and international investors to explore Abia’s investment potential and position the state as a preferred destination for business.

Amakwe recalled that the state government earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VEGA Growing Global Enterprise to support the successful hosting of the summit, adding that preparations are progressing steadily. He noted that a luncheon was held in Abuja over the weekend with partners to set the tone for the event.

He emphasized that Governor Otti has been deliberate in creating a favorable investment climate, which has boosted investor confidence. He revealed that more than 21 Turkish investors have so far registered for the summit, in addition to hundreds of Nigerian investors, with more expected before the event begins.

The adviser noted that the summit will explore opportunities across key sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture and agro-processing, textiles, fashion and leatherworks, energy, infrastructure, trade, and logistics. The ultimate goal, he said, is to place Abia firmly on the global investment map and attract international companies to establish operations in the state.

Amakwe added that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth three-day event, the first of its kind in Abia. He also highlighted collaborations with chambers of commerce in Aba, Umuahia, Lagos, Kano, and the FCT.

He urged the media to continue providing positive coverage that would help shape public perception and enhance the event’s success.

Amakwe also thanked Governor Otti for providing an enabling environment for businesses, noting that the administration’s strides in infrastructure and security are restoring investor confidence. He appreciated the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Dr. Salome Obiukwu, for her dedication to the summit’s success.

Speaking ahead of the event, Banw Yenlikaya of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association said their mission in Abia is to create wealth and share expertise, particularly in furniture and artistic craftsmanship.

Similarly, Erdal Fatih Tozoglu from the Turkish Commercial Counsellor’s office described the summit as a significant step toward strengthening economic cooperation and partnership. He said the event will underscore Turkey’s longstanding commitment to mutually beneficial relations with Africa and explore new opportunities for collaboration with Abia State.
