The Ebem Ohafia Community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has announced sweeping security measures aimed at restoring peace, safety, and order within the community.
The directives, issued by the Ebem Ohafia Youths in collaboration with the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), have the full backing of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders.
In a press statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Ebem Ohafia Community, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, the community declared an immediate and total ban on the sale, use, and trafficking of hard drugs and other illicit substances within Ebem Ohafia. Violators, the statement warned, will face stiff fines and disciplinary actions, irrespective of their social status.
The community also issued a final warning against cultism, directing all individuals involved in such activities to immediately renounce them or face severe community sanctions alongside possible prosecution.
All criminal elements using Ebem Ohafia as a hideout have been ordered to vacate the community without delay. The statement further cautioned that any indigene found harbouring criminals would be held accountable.
In addition, the use of weapons, brandishing of firearms, fighting, and gunshots have been strictly prohibited. Offenders will be handed over to security agencies, subjected to heavy fines, and may face further community sanctions.
The community resolved that Ndi Ikwu will be held responsible for defaulters within their respective jurisdictions, including possible suspension from hosting ceremonies where necessary.
Traders operating along the Ebem Police Station/Court Road and within the Ebem Daily Market were also warned against obstructing gutters, walkways, and designated free zones. Any violation, the community stated, will result in the immediate impoundment of goods.
The Ebem Ohafia Community called on all residents and visitors to comply fully with the new directives, stressing that enforcement will be strict and uncompromising.
