The Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Abraham Ama, has declared that the party will not step down for any political party ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that it will field candidates for all elective positions.
Ama made this known while addressing journalists at the party secretariat in Umuahia after a stakeholders’ meeting. He emphasized that the PDP is fully prepared to contest the elections, adding that while other parties may choose to step down for the PDP, the party itself has no such arrangement.
According to him, the meeting was convened to brief members on the party’s election timetable, including the commencement of the sale of nomination forms for various positions such as the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and the presidency.
He disclosed that several party members have already indicated interest in contesting various positions, including the governorship. Ama noted that at least three aspirants have shown interest in the governorship race, with one already engaging the state working committee and consulting widely with stakeholders.
He further revealed that more aspirants, including some based abroad, have also indicated interest in contesting, while others are eyeing senatorial and House of Representatives seats. He assured that the identities of aspirants would soon be made public.
Ama acknowledged that the PDP had faced internal challenges, including legal battles from the Federal High Court to the Supreme Court, but expressed confidence that the party has overcome those hurdles and is now ready for the 2027 elections.
On reconciliation efforts, the PDP chairman said the party has made significant progress in bringing back aggrieved members. He noted that several former members who had left due to to the party’s internal crisis are now returning, following ongoing reconciliation efforts at both national and state levels.
He dismissed claims of any alliance or coalition with other political parties, particularly the APC, stressing that the PDP remains independent and focused on its electoral strategy.

Also speaking, former Commissioner for Information in the state, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, said the stakeholders’ meeting was aimed at updating members on the party’s current position and preparing them for the tasks ahead.
Kalu reiterated that the PDP would field candidates for all positions in the 2027 elections, including the presidency, governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to win elections, stating that the PDP remains a dominant political force in the state.
He called for unity among party members and urged them to mobilize effectively, noting that the PDP has a track record of delivering results when in power. Kalu also dismissed speculations of any coalition, insisting that only the party’s national leadership can take such decisions.
The PDP leaders assured the media and the public that the party is fully prepared and committed to a successful outing in the 2027 general elections.
Our correspondent reports that the Abia Stakeholders after their meeting passed a vote of confidence on the HE Nyesom Wike the National leader of PDP, the National working Committee of the party led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, the BOT chairman, Sen Mao Ohuabunwa, as well as the Abia State working committee led by Elder Abraham Amah.
