Some residents of Aba have called on government authorities especially those at the national assembly to come to their aide over the ravaging gully erosion behind Abia state university teaching hospital in Osisioma LGA Aba that have taking lives especially when it rains.
Narrating her ugly experience to National Watch, One Nkechi Obigwe residing at Chief Nwaguru street Umuimo estate Aba, said the gully had taken the lives of some students coming back from school.
She disclosed that some adults had also lost the lives to the gully erosion, that resulted during the alleged “construction of the road leading to the University teaching hospital”. Nkechi however, called on government and it’s relevant stakeholders to rescue residents in the area by completing the ongoing road project to address the erosion menace.
According to her, “alot of houses have caved in, while people are packing out from the area and others no longer looking for accommodation within the area”.
“when it rains, people who don’t know the gravity of that gully erosion will step their foot, next thing they will pick their corpse from water side”
Another person who gave his name as Moses described the gully ravaging the area as a death trap, rough and appealed to government to intervene.
They further appealed to Abia state government to complete the on going construction of road there to save the situation.
