The Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Abia State Chapter, has declared its unwavering support and vote of confidence in the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, commending his developmental strides across the state.
Speaking at the maiden CYON Conference, which brought together delegates from Umuahia Diocese, Aba Diocese, as well as Umunneochi, Uturu, and Isuikwuato deaneries, at Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia, the Convener and Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia Zone, Catechist Ambrose Jonah, urged Christians to take charge of their environment and live as true “salt of the earth and light of the world,” referencing Matthew 5:14.

Jonah charged Catholic youths to remain focused and avoid distractions capable of undermining their spiritual growth and contributions to the Church. He cited Governor Otti’s administration as a shining example of positive transformation, noting the government’s achievements in road construction, educational development, quality healthcare, and youth empowerment across the 17 Local Government Areas.
He praised the governor’s grassroots-oriented policies, especially in agriculture and sports, describing them as evidence of a government committed to holistic development.
Speaking on the theme “Be Ye the Light of the World and the Salt of the Earth,” Catechist Jonah reminded participants that, through baptism, Christians carry God’s light but lamented that many have either lost or hidden their light. He urged the youths to rediscover their divine purpose and become shining examples of godly living.
Jonah further disclosed plans to introduce a new initiative, the “Marian Catechist Apostolate,” in Nigeria, beginning with the Umuahia Diocese. Describing it as an international apostolate, he emphasized that every member of the Church is called to be a catechist a teacher of the Word of God and the Catholic faith.

In her remarks, Lady Vivian Ogwumike commended the Catholic youths for their zeal and commitment to contributing meaningfully to the state’s progress.
The Umuahia Catholic Youth Leader, Catechist Igboeche Ernest, highlighted the Otti administration’s impact in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development, describing them as clear indicators of responsible leadership and prudent financial management.

Ernest applauded the governor for restoring peace, accountability, and people-focused governance, while urging him to fulfill outstanding campaign promises, particularly youth empowerment initiatives within the Catholic community.
