Abia NUJ to Honour Veterans & Recognize Others

The stage is getting set as Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council is organizing the maiden edition of her cultural/veterans day celebration.

The event is expected to be memorable, as members are required to grace the occasion on cultural attire. The maiden cultural day will only allow our mother tongue “IGBO LANGUAGE” as a means of communication, including the lecture.

However, it is our hope that the invitations extended to traditional rulers and other prominent citizens will assist to add colour to the ceremony.

A release jointly endorsed by the chairman planning committee, Comrade Chukwuma Emele, the secretary -Comrade Chinenye Iwuoha and the Chairman NUJ Abia State Council Comrade Victor Ndukwe says the event will take place on Tuesday, 6th December 2022 at Palm Garden, Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia by 10am.

The committee said that the Chairman of Traditional Prime Ministers in Abia State and Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, High Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu (BAWAS) will be chairman of the occasion and Co-Chaired by Mr Kennedy Onyema, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Documentation and Strategic Communication.

The maiden NUJ Cultural day celebration will have the Governor of Abia State and Grand patron of Abia NUJ, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PH.D as the Chief Guest of Honor.

Other prominent persons expected to grace the occasion are, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu PH.D, National President of NUJ Comrade Chris Isiguzo (MFR) and the member representing Ikwuano/ Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rep Sam Onuigbo (Odozi Obodo).

Guests of Honour include
Commissioner for Information, Abia State, Dr Eze Chikamnayo, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Hon Tony Nwamuo, Commissioner for Trade Investment Chief John Okiyi Kalu and Commissioner for Documentation and Strategic Communication, Chief Ugochukwu Emezue and Pillar of Abia NUJ and PDP candidate for Isialangwa North and South Federal Constituency, Prof A. C. B Agbazuere.

Guest lecturer: Professor Ogbonna Onuoha, Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) Administration ABSU.

Lecture Topic: “The Role of The Media in Preserving Igbo Culture: Saving The Igbo Language from Extinction”.

The event will feature Cultural displays, exhibition and inspection of Igbo local delicacies, as well as the presentation of awards to Veterans of Abia NUJ and deserving Nigerians including two Igbo music Maestros, Professor Obewe and Bright Chimezie.
