The Abia State Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has organized a one-day sectoral workshop on “Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies ,” bringing together volunteers and officials to reinforce collaboration and road safety enforcement.
The workshop, declared open by FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, aims to sharpen the operational knowledge of Special Marshals and deepen ties between regular and volunteer officers to promote stricter traffic regulation and safer roads. Represented by Abia State Sector Commander Corp Commandant Ngozi Ezeoma, Mohammed highlighted the need for Special Marshals to elevate their effectiveness in upholding traffic laws and preventing accidents. He noted that the training will impart skills in speed management and safety inspections, including rigorous vehicle checks to protect road users.
National Coordinator of Special Marshals, Adaji Usman, speaking through Assistant National Secretary Mrs. Happiness Osuigwe, addressed the rising insecurity in the country, stressing the importance of equipping Special Marshals with strategic awareness and vigilance while prioritizing their personal safety. Zonal Coordinator Chris Njupueme called on participants to follow the FRSC Code of Conduct, serve confidently, and safeguard both themselves and motorists.
Prof. Chukwunma Henry Kadurumba, delivering a keynote paper, advocated for a “Four-Pillar Framework” – encompassing training, technology, operational governance, and welfare systems – to protect volunteers and fortify public safety efforts. He advocated for inter-agency collaboration, joint drills, intelligence sharing, and a focus on safety consciousness, vigilance, and professionalism among Special Marshals.
Abia State Coordinator Ven. Barr. Kingsley Nwachi encouraged attendees to serve with wisdom and dedication, affirming their collective determination to advance FRSC objectives and cultivate a secure motoring environment in the State. The workshop underscores Abia State’s partnership with the FRSC to improve road safety amid national challenges, with participants expected to apply the acquired strategies for immediate impact.
