The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Abia State wing has given fourteen days ultimatum to Abia State government to pay them their entitlements, as well as other condition of service owed to them.
In a letter titled “14 DAYS ULTIMATUM TO ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT OVER ENTITLEMENTS/CONDITIONS OF SERVICE” signed by the state secretary, NUT, Comrade Mrs Nnenna Okonkwo, and addressed to the state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu after their state wing executive meeting in Umuahia, sighted by National Watch, said the Teachers frowned at the, unbearable plight of primary and post primary school teachers in the state public schools. The meeting was held on 13th April, 2022 and at an enlarged meeting of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, all confederation of Principals of secondary schools (ANCOPSS), Association of Primary School Head Teachers (AOPSHON) and zonal leaders in the state education system on 4th May, 2022.
The teachers recalled in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively, a strike action was initiated by NUT Abia state wing, but was suspended after agreements were reached to address the issues as raised. Unfortunately, the NUT said the agreements were breached by the government and rather more problems were created to already existing ones.
According to NUT, Abia state wing, the letter was to draw his attention to fulfill all the agreements and promises made with the union.
