Abia Government said it is aware of the devastating gully at Umuobia Olokoro Housing Estate in Umuahia South LGA.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna who disclosed this while reacting to complaints by the residents of the area whose buildings are being pulled down by the gully said he has personally visited the gully, to assess the level of devastation for possible action
The Commissioner explained that efforts are on to start remediation work, to contain the situation.
The Environment Commissioner revealed that the present administration is aware of the erosion menace confronting communities in the state and will not rest on its oars of tackling such.
He explained that the ministry has also inspected the gullies at Umuchime Ogbodi, Ohokobe Afaraukwu ibeku, isiama Afara, and Umuagu ibeku among others.
