Abia State Environmental Protection Agency ASEPA, has urged Abians to comply with the new rates and tariffs which took effect from 1st January 2025.
Briefing the press at ASEPA headquarters Ogurube Layout Umuahia, the general manager of the agency Mazi Ogbonnaya Okereke flanked by the deputy general managers, said the new rates and tariffs were certified and approved by Governor Alex Otti in 2024 as contained in an executive order.
He disclosed that the state governor subsidized the rates and tariffs to enable Nnd Abia to embrace it with ease, as well as subsidized the evacuation of waste.
To this end, each room in the urban area will pay 300 naira pay month, while one room in the rural area will pay 150 naira.
According to him, it is the duty of tenants to pay unless where there is an agreement between the tenants and landlords.
While saying that ASEPA is working in collaboration with the ministry of environment to keep the environment clean, Mazi Ogbonnaya Okereke advised people to use the state code for single treasurer account to pay or go to the bank.
He emphasized that for now, ASEPA has no agents, warning people not to pay cash to any body. The ASEPA GM added that their services have been extended to all parts of Abia State, called on residents of Abia State to pay their rates and tariffs to support their services.
Schools numbering 1 to 100 will pay 5,000 monthly, factories/manufacturing companies 50,000, Eateries 15,000, Supermarkets 15,000, Hotels 25,000, Petrol/Gas stations 10,000, Government/ militar, police etc 15,000, Churches/ Religious institutions 1 to 100 5,000.
