In appreciation of the efforts of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, the Umuahia Zone of the agency has taken delivery of six newly constructed receptacle buckets.
The buckets were donated by Chief Sunny Ikea Oluka of Ahaba Imenyi, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
Receiving the donation, the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA, Umuahia Zone, Mr. Ambrose Jonah, described the gesture as laudable and timely.
Mr. Jonah expressed gratitude to the donor for supporting the good works of the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, particularly in the area of environmental sanitation and cleanliness across the state through ASEPA.
The ASEPA Umuahia Zone Deputy General Manager recalled the state of waste management in Abia before the emergence of the Dr. Alex Otti administration, which declared a state of emergency in waste management. He noted that the reforms introduced by the present administration have transformed the sector, adding that Abia is now ranked among the cleanest states in Nigeria.
Speaking during the presentation of the six receptacle buckets, Chief Sunny Ikea Oluka said he was motivated to make the donation by the high level of environmental cleanliness achieved under the Dr. Alex Otti-led administration.
He pledged to continue supporting the present government’s development efforts and urged Abians to always contribute their quota towards the overall growth and development of the state.
The handover ceremony was attended by representatives of environmental stakeholders, including the Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Environment Society, whose secretary, Ifeanyi Olunkwa, was present.
The donation comes as Abia State continues to position environmental sustainability as a key pillar of its urban renewal and governance agenda, seeking to align local practices with broader national and global standards on sanitation and public health.
