It was a joyful moment, prayers and worship songs on Wednesday morning, being Christmas Day, at Mbubo in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia, as women in their large numbers gathered at the Ogboo Ogu Civic Centre to take home palliatives presented by renowned philanthropist, Chief Eric Opah and family.
The occasion also featured the birthday of Chief Eric Opah’s wife, Mrs Ogechi Christy Opah and his two children, Michelle and Fortune Opah, availed the women opportunity to commend Chief Eric Opah for his magnanimity over the years as he has continually attended to the needs of Mbubo people.
Addressing the women, Chief Opah, pointed out that the essence of the gathering, is in the spirit of the yuletide season, as well as what has become a norm every year-reeling out palliatives to women of Mbubo, adding that the gesture has become even more imperative especially amid biting economic realities.
He said it is a thing of joy that he and his family journeyed for one whole year and returned to the community in good health, stressing that what they have done is in appreciation of the mercies of God and the fervent prayers that the people of Mbubo has extended to his life and family.
Chief Opah said his household deemed it necessary this yuletide season and in celebration of the birthday of his wife, Mrs Ogechi Christy Opah, decided to call together Mbubo women who have been taking care of the land, praying that they will continue to experience peace for all their sacrifices in the community.
He acknowledged that Mbubo women have always stood firmly by him and his family, rendering prayers and supplications unto the Lord, stressing that the wrappers, rice among other items are for them to enjoy the season while appealing to them to continue praying for his family in all they do.
On her part, Mrs Ogechi Christy Opah said the essence of the gathering is to celebrate the mothers this yuletide season, maintaining that they deserve love, care and compassion.
Mrs Opah, who stated that God’s blessings and faithfulness is enormous upon her and her family, revealed that it is in appreciation of the faithfulness of God that they decided to extend the gesture to the women, acknowledging that it is a yearly sacrifice.
On what has motivated her to do this each year, Mrs Opah, revealed that it is a habit that she formed since her tender years, stating that giving attracts more blessings. She also advised mothers to try to engage themselves in meaningful ventures no matter how little it might be.
On her part, a Kindred Woman Leader, Mrs Jane Akoma, appreciated Mr and Mrs Eric Opah for always reaching out to the women of Mbubo regularly. She recalled that during the COVID-19 era, Chief Opah acted like the Moses of their time by dishing out palliatives which sustained families.
She used the opportunity to appeal to mothers who dissuade their children from giving arms to the needy, adding that the blessings from giving is enormous just as she advised other well to do individuals in Mbubo to borrow a clue from Chief Eric Opah.
Some of the beneficiaries including Blessing Okali, appreciated Mr and Mrs Opah for their gesture while praying God to bless them bountifully.
