Eze Ukoha Celebrates 35th Coronation Anniversary, Confers Titles on Distinguished Sons and Daughters

The traditional ruler of Ebem Ohafia Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha (JP), Kpoke I of Ekelugo Ebem and Ezieogo Ebem Ohafia, has conferred chieftaincy titles on distinguished sons, daughters, and friends of the community in recognition of their contributions to its growth and development.

The ceremony, held on Saturday 4th April 2026 at the Ohafia LGA Pavilion, formed part of activities marking the monarch’s 35th coronation anniversary and his 89th birthday celebration.

Among the honourees was the CEO of ABN Online Radio and Television, Chief Ifeanyi Okali, who was bestowed with the title of Okwuru Oha 1 of Ebem Ohafia.

Speaking during the event, Eze Ukoha said the honours were reserved for individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the progress of Ebem Ohafia.

He urged the recipients to remain worthy ambassadors and continue to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the community.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Barrister Anagha Kalu Anagha, commended the monarch for his impactful leadership, noting that his reign has brought stability, unity, and development to Ebem Ohafia. He highlighted key initiatives, including annual prayer programmes and effective conflict resolution mechanisms.

He expressed gratitude to God for preserving the monarch to the age of 89 in good health, describing his reign as the longest in the history of Ebem Ohafia and the wider Ohafia community.

According to him, Eze Ukoha’s early challenges on the throne, including periods of insubordination and resistance, helped shape his enduring leadership, marked by forgiveness, resilience, and a commitment to peace and development.

Anagha also paid tribute to the monarch’s wife, Ugoeze Nne Opugwe Ukoha, for her steadfast support through difficult periods, describing her as a pillar of strength.

Addressing the awardees, he noted that their selection was based strictly on merit and their contributions to infrastructural and human development, emphasizing that none obtained the titles through financial influence. He charged them to uphold the dignity of their new status, actively participate in community affairs, and offer objective counsel when called upon.

In his remarks, the President General of Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), Chief Uduma Olugu Iroha, described the occasion as a celebration of enduring leadership, resilience, and unwavering dedication. He noted that the monarch’s 35-year reign reflects divine grace and purposeful leadership.

Iroha praised the royal father for promoting unity, preserving cultural heritage, and strengthening the spiritual life of the people. He highlighted initiatives such as the annual Ebem Thanksgiving Day, held every last Friday of the year at Nbum Square, as key to fostering communal harmony and gratitude.

Responding on behalf of the awardees, Chief Ifeanyi Okali who received Okwuru Oha 1 of Ebem Ohafia expressed appreciation for the honour, describing it as a call to greater service. He pledged continued commitment to the development of Ebem Ohafia and commended the monarch and community leaders for their visionary leadership.
