Journalists across Nigeria were in jubilation in Umuahia, as Comrade Chris Isiguzo was on Thursday 7th October, 2021 re-elected as the president of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, for a period of three years.
The deputy national president, Nigeria labour congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who announced the results of the election, said Isiguzo from zone C in the south east, polled 665 votes to win his opponent, from Kaduna north west in zone A, Yusuf Idris who scored 15 votes DURING the “NUJ 7th triennial delegates’ conference Umuahia 2021” held at Michael Okpara Auditorium on the theme, “The Role of the Media in Times of National Renewal”.
However, Barrister Dogwo Akasco administered the oath of office, as supporters of Isiguzo and others elected exchange pleasantries.
Addressing the crowd after their swearing in, the new president of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo appreciated members of NUJ for the confident reposed in them, adding that the new executive will need their maximum support to take the council to the next level.
Isiguzo assured that they will not disappoint the union and described the second mandate given to them as a vote of confidence.
He promised that his second administration will do better, stating that he will soon reel out his agenda on what to achieve, promising to be more committed and diligent in service.
