Abia State Director National Orientation Agency (NOA) Dr Mrs Ngozi Okechukwu has described the annual home coming of women in the South East popularly known as August meeting as a veritable platform to showcase the critical role of women in various homes and communities.
Dr Mrs Ngozi Okechukwu, stated this at this year’s annual home coming of the women of Umuosu and Umuode Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, of Abia State.
The NOA Director noted that the August meeting has provided a forum for exchange of ideas as both those in diaspora and home interact to find ways for collective efforts aimed at developing their communities.
According to Dr Okechukwu, NOA is using this year’s August meeting as a platform to drive home the message of risk Communication, community engagement on Covid19 and essential family practices. She disclosed that National Orientation Agency in partnership with UNICEF, ministries of Health, Information and other relevant government agencies are using this mass home coming of women to drive the message of compliance to COVID-19 risk mitigation measures and COVID-19 vaccination, debunking rumours associated with the safety of the vaccine and to ensure that by December 2021, at least over fifteen thousand women in Abia State must have been vaccinated.
In her lecture, Mrs Ngozi Maduako of the State Ministry of information urged the woman to continue to observe all the COVID-19 protocols, wearing of face mask, hand washing and social distancing.
Representative from Abia State primary Health Development Agency, Mrs Meg Onwu called for the acceptance and uptake of the COVID 19 vaccine as it is safe.
On her part, Mrs Chinwe Eke spoke on the five Essential Family practices of Antenatal care, immunization, Exclusive breastfeeding, hand washing and proper excreta disposal.
Responding, the women leaders of Umuosu and Umuode Nsulu, Mrs Nkechi Adiukwu and Mrs Blessing Ekpo commended the National Orientation Agency,UNICEF and other government agencies for coming to sensitize the women. They stated that August meeting has assisted them to bring development in their areas, discuss issues affecting them and pledged on behalf of other women to support their husbands in the development of their communities.
