Organised labour suspends strike in Abia, awaits implementation of agreements with Govt.

The organized labour in Abia state NLC and TUC have suspended the planned indefinite strike action billed to commence today, Monday 15th July, 2024 in Abia.

Addressing newsmen in a joint press briefing, the state chairman of NLC Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya said the suspension of the indefinite strike action was to give time for the state government to implement the memorandum it has reached with the organized labour over the issues raised by the unions including the wage award, thirty thousand naira minimum wage, leave allowances, among others.

Comrade Okoro disclosed that if the seven-point agreement reached with the state government in the memorandum of understanding was not implemented before the 28th of this month, the organized labour would have no option to embark on strike action without giving any other notice to the state government.

He expressed happiness about the fruitful interface with the state government and the commitment exhibited by the governor to the interact with organized labor.

He urged Abia workers to go to work and discharge their duties well while the organized labour will monitor the implementation of the memorandum of understanding, assuring workers of the commitment of the organized labour to protecting their interests and welfare

Also speaking the state chairman of TUC, comrade Ihechi Eneogwe said that the organized labour will work with the government to ensure that what is due to Abia workers is given to them.

According to him the interface with the governor will create a robust relationship that will drive the implementation of what is due to Abia workers and commended them for their trust and belief in the union.
