Stop Diverting Sanitation Defaulters to your Custody, ABGT to Abia Police

Abia state government has warned the Nigerian police Abia state command to desist from sabotaging the efforts of government during sanitation hours.

The house committee chairman on environment, honourable Kalu Mba-Nwoke dropped this on saturday while interacting with newsmen at Umuahia high court after monitoring the sanitation exercise. He disclosed that Umuahia central police station bende road had formed the habit of diverting defaulters to CPS Umuahia during sanitations, instead of bringing them to sanitation court.

A particularly set of police officers were caught by sanitation monitoring team led by the permanent secretary ministry of environment, honourable Kalu Mba-Nwoke, along side press team when they diverted a tricycle operator and a fair lady inside the tricycle into CPS Bende road Umuahia. On reaching there, the sanitation monitoring team discovered that the police with various vehicles had brought other defaulters and charge them alot of money.

The law maker therefore called on the police authorities in Abia state led by commissioner of police, CP Danladi Isa to stop such ugly act. He stated that police who are not on duty on sanitation days should stop harassing people with gums with other forms of intimidations.

Contributing, the special adviser to the Governor on environment, Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere asked parents to caution their children who always play in the streets particularly during sanitations around Owerri and Enugu roads among others. He stated that good health is for everyone and people must clean their environment.

On his part, the permanent secretary ministry of environment, Mr Ikechukwu Oriuwa noted that there was reasonable compliance during the sanitation, adding that the movement noticed were those on imminization exercise and candidates going to take unified tertiary matriculation examination UTME mop up exam.

He warned traders and motor parks to obey government instructions by cleaning their environments every time and last fridays of every month and stay at home on last saturdays of every month to clean their home.

Oriuwa warned traders especially Orieugba, Ahiaukwu Olokoro, Ubakala market among others to stop coming to markets during sanitations, stressing that they would be arrested henceforth.

Also speaking, the general manager of Abia state environmental protection agency, ASEPA Mazi Ogbonnaya Okereke observed that a lot of business premises were not cleaned. He encouraged butchers to support the state government’s plan to introduce biogas for burning of meat, instead of using tyres.

The ASEPA GM warned that using tyres to burn meat is carsogenous.

National Watch reports that 92 defaulters were arrested and brought to sanitation high court Umuahia, while nine was released based on health grounds, 2 UTME candidates were also released to go their exam.
