Abia NUJ Veteran Stakeholders Forum has reminded the acting Chairman of the Abịa State Council of the union, Comrade Chidi Asonye of the tasks ahead of him as the new number one Journalist in the state.
Speaking shortly after the official introduction of Comrade Asonye, during their monthly meeting, Chairman of the forum, Comrade Ambrose Nwachukwu noted that Comrade Asonye has been in the profession long enough and should be able to grapple with the challenges of his new office.
Comrade Ogbonnaya Iheaka, called on him to ensure that the welfare of members are adequately handled even as he insisted that the profession should be strengthened, admonishing that he should be guided by the constitution of the union.
Comrade John Emejor reminded him of the need to sure up finances to be able to meet up with the commitment required by the office, as he cannot run the council without adequate funding.
Former SSG, Chief Ralph Egbu asked that he should lead the union to the land of El dorado, even as he advised that he carry along everyone, as well as manage crisis at all times so there won’t be any obstacles on his way, while leading the Journalists in the state.
They all in one had assured him of the forum’s support at all times to lead the union aright as well as take its rightful stand in the scheme of things as members of the fourth estate of the realm.
Comrade Asonye, of ZikFm 96.3, Umuahia, becomes the 7th person to lead Abia Journalists since its creation in 1991, and he took over from Comrade Victor Ndukwe, who resigned his position to contest the seat of the National Treasurer of the union during the Triennial Delegates Conference of the NUJ coming up in Owerri next week.
