Vision Spring Initiatives & Nigeria Women Trust Fund donates Desktops and Printer to Abia Police command

A non-governmental organization Vision Spring Initiatives with support from Nigeria Women Trust Fund has donated Desktops and Printers to Abia State Police Command. This was made known at a human rights training on EVAWG for police officers that held recently in Umuahia.

At the Training, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs Chinwe Onyeukwu, has expressed Gov. Alex Otti’s commitment to stop violence against women and girls in the state.

She highlighted the commitments and the dedication of the governor and his wife, Priscilla, in ensuring that the right investment, resources, policies, and systems were put in place for survivors.

Onyeukwu said that the state government had already started the implementation of some Initiatives and policies aimed at enhancing police capacity and accountability.

She urged everyone to support the efforts of the police and other stakeholders in combating violence against women and girls, as well as demand accountability and justice for the survivors.

Onyeukwu said: “The police play a crucial role in preventing and responding to EVAWG.

“Their presence and actions can serve as a deterrent to potential perpetrators, and their swift response is vital in ensuring justice for survivors.

“However, challenges such as lack of resources, training, coordination, and data, coupled with a deficit of trust between the police and the community, hinder their effectiveness in addressing this issue “

According to her, EVAWG is a serious issue that demands our attention, collaboration and commitment.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Executive Director of Vision Spring Initiatives, Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu-Juba said the organisation had held series of interventions towards ending violence against women and girls in the state.

The convener called on all to join hands with organisation and others to stop violence against women and girls in order to entrench a safer society.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Abia, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, represented by CSP Leticia Onwuchekwa, thanked the partners for the presentation, support and kind gestures to the command.

He expressed the police willingness in carrying out its mandate to support the safety of women and girls in the state.
