The state chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT Abia State wing, Comrade Madu Chukwujiekwu has identified that employment of professional teachers would enhance the status of education in Abia State.
Comrade Chukwujiekwu stated this as teachers in Abia State joins their colleagues to mark 2023 world teachers day.
World Teacher Day was established by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO in 1994. It’s held annually on October 5 since 1994, the World Teachers’ Day is observed to commemorate the adoption of 1996 ILO/ UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers, their rights and responsibilities and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
World Teachers’ Day which holds annually on October 5 is a day of recognition and appreciation for teachers around the world. It’s an occasion to celebrate the profound impact teachers have on society by equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed for success. This day also serves as a reminder of the importance of quality education and the role of teachers in achieving it.
It is an annual event that pays tribute to the educators who play a pivotal role in shaping our future. This day, celebrated on October 5th each year, provides an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of teachers worldwide.
Speaking on the theme of this year 2023, “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”, Comrade Madu reiterates that Abia state needs more qualified teachers to meet up the standard and expressed hope that the state governor will employ the five thousand teachers he pronounced during his inauguration.
He further noted that teachers are like candles that give light to the world adding that the working condition of a teacher is the learning condition of the child.
Comrade Madu Chukwujiekwu further advised that there should be attention to the implementation of the curriculum of education, saying that there should be necessary provision infrastructures, instructional materials and there should be some incentive that will give joy to the teachers.
