Zenith Environmental and Social Project Network, ZESPRONET, a non governmental organization and Alumnus of Abia State University, Uturu says they would embark on more projects in addition to forty four rooms hotel built and donated to their Alma Mater.
ZESPRONET made up of people with like minds that graduated from Abia state University made the promise through their National President, Okere Bidwell while briefing newsmen in Umuahia, said Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu will commission the hotel during the 27th and 28th combined convocation ceremony of ABSU on Friday 12th November, 2021.
According to Bidwell, the hostel was built for ABSU post graduate students.
He disclosed that the eighty million naira project was delivered to change the narrative of what ABSU graduates can offer, adding that the hostel project was executed under needs assessment when the management of the University was approached during the tenure of Professor Uche Ikonne as the Vice Chancellor.
Bidwell explained that the hostel would be maintained and managed by ABSU management, said that it is their wish to meet the hostel in good condition anytime they visited the institution.
ZESPRONET further promised to embark on tree planting project, but not limited to Abia State, to ensure better habitat for all.
Sharing his experience with ZESPRONET, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of ABSU, Professor Uche Ikonne appreciated them for given back to their Alma Mater. Professor Ikonne described Alumni Association as major stakeholders in academic world and revealed that certain percentage of academic budget in Western World goes to Alumni Association. He stated that the Alumnus built and equiped the hostel with modern facilities.
The Professor of Optometry opined that he was overwhelmed to see that the post graduate hotel was delivered within a short time, prayed God to reward those who remembered that ABSU gave them their meal ticket.
He further commended ZESPRONET for initiating the project under his watch as the Vice Chancellor of ABSU and expressed happiness that more projects from ABSU Alumni Association would come up.
