2027: Anosike Promises Health Insurance Subsidy, Improved Workers’ Welfare as PDP Rallies Support in Umuahia South

The Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has pledged to introduce a health insurance subsidy to improve healthcare access and enhance the living conditions of Abia residents if elected governor in the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a thank-you visit to party members and stakeholders at Sacramento Event Centre, Isi Court, Umuahia, Anosike assured supporters that his administration would deliver meaningful development and position Abia among Nigeria’s leading states.

He said it was only proper, in line with biblical teachings, to return and appreciate party members for entrusting him with the PDP governorship ticket. According to him, the PDP remains the strongest political party in Abia State and will continue to play a dominant role in the state’s political future.

Describing himself as a committed welfarist, Anosike said the welfare of the people would be the cornerstone of his administration. He reiterated his “People First” philosophy, promising people-centred policies that would improve the quality of life for residents across the state.

The PDP flag bearer also pledged to prioritise workers’ welfare by improving their financial benefits and implementing humane policies. He promised to embark on massive development of Umuahia, expressing confidence in his plans to transform the state capital.

Anosike assured party faithful that those who worked for his emergence would be given opportunities to serve in his administration, stressing that his government would be built with committed party members rather than outsiders.

Earlier, the Abia State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, thanked members of the party in Umuahia South for their warm reception and commended stakeholders for remaining steadfast despite the party’s challenges following the 2023 governorship election.

He described Dr. Anosike as a worthy son of Umuahia and urged the people to unite behind his ambition. Amah noted that while previous administrations received significantly lower monthly allocations of three billion, the current administration enjoys much higher revenues of over forty billion, yet, according to him, many developmental expectations have not been met.

He alleged that pension-related challenges still persist and expressed disappointment that Umuahia had not witnessed the level of infrastructure development many residents expected. He, however, expressed confidence that Anosike had adequately prepared himself to provide effective leadership for Abia State.

Amah further described Umuahia as a neglected capital city, assuring party supporters that an Anosike administration would reverse the trend through people-oriented governance. He expressed confidence that with God’s support, the PDP candidate would emerge victorious in 2027 and urged residents of Umuahia South to give him their full backing.

Also speaking, PDP chieftain, Chief Empire Kalu, expressed satisfaction with what he described as the gradual rebuilding of the party and prayed for Anosike’s success at the polls.

A PDP stalwart, Chief Tony Ezebuiro, thanked the governorship candidate, the state chairman and other party leaders for identifying with members of the party in Umuahia South.

The PDP candidate for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Humphrey Benson, said Anosike’s visit was to appreciate party members for their support, adding that the campaign proper would commence at the appropriate time.

Chairman of the Forum of PDP Local Government Chairmen, Cyprial Obia, welcomed Anosike and members of the State Working Committee, LGA executives and ward chairmen, describing the governorship candidate as a beacon of hope for Abia people.

In his welcome address, the Umuahia South PDP Chairman, Chief John Anyanwu, thanked the party leadership for the visit and described it as a homecoming. He assured Anosike of the unwavering support of PDP members in the local government, pledging that Umuahia South would play a major role in securing his victory in the 2027 governorship election.

Correspondent reports that many pro-groups including Ifeanyichukwu Ekwuribe Movement were present to add colour to the event.
