14 Brigade Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment to Strong Media Relations as NUJ Pays Courtesy Visit

The Commander, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Mansur Dikko, has reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to fostering a strong, transparent, and mutually beneficial relationship with the media, in line with the media relations philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM).

Brigadier General Dikko, who also serves as Commander, Sector 3 Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, gave the assurance on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council to the 14 Brigade Headquarters in Ohafia, Abia State.

The NUJ delegation was led by the State Chairman, Comrade Chidi Asonye, who was represented by Comrade Felix Obani, alongside members of the State Executive Council.

According to the NUJ Chairman, the visit was to formally welcome the new Brigade Commander, interact with him, and reaffirm the Union’s readiness to sustain cordial working relations with the military.

He emphasized the media’s critical role as a bridge between institutions and the public, noting that responsible and balanced journalism remains vital in shaping public perception and strengthening public trust. He further solicited continued cooperation and support from the Brigade to enable journalists in the state to effectively discharge their professional duties.

In his response, Brigadier General Dikko expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the pivotal role of the media in nation-building. He observed that while the media has the power to build trust and confidence, it can also undermine public confidence if not professionally managed.

The Commander commended the NUJ for its support in projecting the activities and achievements of the Nigerian Army in Abia State, stressing that the Army relies heavily on credible media platforms to inform the public about its commitments, operations, and successes. He assured the delegation of the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, transparency, and timely engagement with journalists.

Reiterating the mandate of 14 Brigade, Brigadier General Dikko reaffirmed the resolve of the formation to maintain peace, security, and stability across its Area of Responsibility, while strengthening civil–military cooperation. He encouraged members of the public to make appropriate use of facilities within the barracks, including the medical centre, schools, and market.

He further advised that any cases of misconduct involving military personnel should be promptly reported to the Officer Commanding, 14 Brigade Military Police, for necessary disciplinary action, assuring the NUJ delegation of his goodwill and openness.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the Brigade Commander to the NUJ Chairman, symbolizing mutual respect and a sustained partnership. The visit concluded with a group photograph and light refreshments.

The engagement underscored the enduring partnership between 14 Brigade Nigerian Army and the media community in Abia State, anchored on trust, professionalism, and a shared responsibility in promoting peace and security.
