Former elected councillors in Ikwuano Local Government Area have endorsed the re-election bid of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 general election.
A Labour Party chieftain in Ikwuano, Catechist Ambrose Jonah, gave the assurance while receiving members of the Abia State Elected Former Councillors Forum, Ikwuano chapter, during a courtesy visit to his hometown, Amizi Oloko in Ikwuano LGA.

Jonah said Abians have witnessed remarkable progress under Governor Otti’s administration, describing it as a reflection of good leadership, accountability and effective governance.
He urged residents to compare the achievements of the current administration with previous governments, noting that the state is now experiencing rapid development and growth.
According to him, the Labour Party remains strongly positioned to defeat any opposition in the 2027 election because of Governor Otti’s credibility and performance.
Jonah recalled that in 2019, some political leaders approached him through delegates to join their camp, but he declined because he believed Dr Otti was the most credible among all the governorship contenders.
He assured the former councillors of continued support from stakeholders in Ikwuano, describing them as important grassroots leaders.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Abia State Elected Former Councillors Forum, Ikwuano chapter, Hon. Unegbu Emmanuel Unegbu, said the visit was aimed at strengthening relationships with current political appointees and elected officials from the area.

Unegbu stated that Governor Otti had wiped away years of hardship experienced by many Abians through his developmental programmes and people-oriented policies.
He reaffirmed the resolve of former councillors in the area to mobilise support and strengthen the Labour Party structure ahead of the 2027 election, insisting that the governor deserves a second term because of his developmental strides across the state.
He further disclosed that Governor Otti approved the payment of salary arrears owed to former councillors by previous administrations.
Also speaking, the Zonal Secretary of the Abia Former Councillors Forum, Hon. Chief Mbagwu Johnson Chukwuemeka, commended the governor for improving infrastructure and socioeconomic development across the state.
He cited the ongoing Ariam-Usaka Ring Road project and efforts toward modern agricultural development in Abia as evidence of the administration’s commitment to progress.
