Abia State security support fund committee is soliciting the assistance of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State council to drive their aim down home to people.
Chairman of the committee and permanent secretary, bureau of special services, office of the secretary to the state government, Mr Ihedioha Okey Onuoha made the appeal when he led other members of the committee to interact with the leadership and members of NUJ in Umuahia.
Mr Onuoha, said the security support fund launched in 2018 has been passed into law known as Abia State security law number 4 2020.
According to him, the committee has reached Nigeria bar association, Nigeria medical association, landlords in Aba and Umuahia, CAN among others and saw the need to identify with the NUJ to drive the message, adding that the governor has approved the relaunch of the security support fund on 23 September this year.
Special adviser to Abia state governor on security, captain Awa Udensi retired and state coordinator, Abia State security fund, Mr Darlington Anyanwu called on prominent Abians to assist Abia state government provide adequate security for Abians and their property by supporting the security support fund financially.
Awa and Anyanwu noted that the security situation in Nigeria is not palatable, which is also affecting the political arrangements in the country. The security adviser insisted that security outfits like Ebubeagu, vigilante among neighbourhood watch are working, but opined that they must not be on uniform before they perform their job.

They maintained that security lapses affect development, hence, there is need to rigid and strengthen security architecture in Abia State, not minding that survey had proved that Abia is the 3rd safest state in Nigeria.
The two security experts added that the September relaunch of Abia State security support fund will feature the introduction of residence security card.
In his speech, the state NUJ chairman, comrade Victor Ndukwe thanked Abia state government for passing the state security support fund into law and suggested ways the committee could do better interns of publicity.
Comrade Ndukwe promised them that Abia NUJ will give them the needed support, because journalists do not and will not compromise security in the state.
