Abia state government is frowning over the attitude of sanitation defaulters, especially those who claim that there were not aware of the notice.
However, it seems August, 2021 sanitation exercise in Umuahia witnessed massive enforcement as taskforce workers arrested many defaulters.
Speaking to newsmen after the monitoring the exercise, the permanent secretary, ministry of environment, Iheanyichukwu Ubani represented by the deputy director, pollution control and environmental health, Mrs Obimaduka Ihuaku said the exercise recorded impressive turn up.
He stated that a lot of umuahia residents took part in the exercise, adding that logistics were provided to shun hindrance, adding that environmental health officers and staff of ministry of environment contributed to make the exercise fruitful.
The chairman of umuahia north LGA who spoke through the deputy, Bob Agbugba noted that most defaulters arrested during the sanitation and brought to the mobile court were people traveling through umuahia, adding that such could not serve as enough evidence because the sanitation time was on news.
The umuahia north council boss urged people to obey the instruction as stated in the scripture which says that “cleanliness is next to godliness”, especially now another wave of coronavirus is threatening lives.
According to him, the council would continue to improve on its accomplishment to address some of the challenges experienced while monitoring and debunked the report that umuahia north did not provide logistics to cart refuses away.
