Financial expert and former bank chief executive of Diamond Bank, Dr Alex Otti says the educational sector in Nigeria has failed beyond expectations and called on all levels of government to allocate the appropriate fund to education sector.
Otti, who was two times governorship candidate of APGA in Abia state disclosed that between sixteen to twenty five percent of government yearly budget was recommended by United Nations to give education needed attention and charged government to go back to the drawing board, as budget implementation in the country is very poor.
He started this during the banquet of his scholarship award for under graduates at Umuru Umuehim Nvusi in Isialangwa south LGA of Abia state and stressed the need for Nigeria to wear thinking cap to salvage the harsh economy affecting the growth of the country. To this end, he decided to help and give back to the society through the scholarship award and other interventions.
Dr Alex Otti congratulated the successful scholars and advised them to expand their knowledge in other fields of life to enable them create jobs upon graduation, stressing that the employment opportunities are limited.
The executive director of Dr Alex Otti scholarship foundation, Chinedu Ekeke stated that the foundation is standing on three values namely fairness, opportunity and community where people from other states residing in Abia have the opportunity to enjoy the intervention. He added that 35 scholars made it this year’s 2021.
Some of the beneficiaries including Nnenna Chiamaka Okezie and Onyekachi Udodirim thanked Dr Alex Otti for his support and expressed gratitude to him for giving back to the society. They also promised to remain good ambassadors of Dr Alex Otti foundation.
