The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State for the 2027 election, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has pledged to complete and commission the abandoned secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, within his first 100 days in office if elected governor.
Anosike made the commitment on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when he addressed members of the Abia NUJ during the council’s monthly congress, where he interacted with journalists and outlined his vision for the state.
The PDP candidate said journalists deserved a conducive and comfortable working environment to effectively discharge their professional responsibilities, stressing the need for the NUJ to have a befitting secretariat.
He noted that media practitioners required an appropriate place where they could carry out their duties of informing the public, promoting accountability and giving citizens a voice.
Anosike assured that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would make the completion and commissioning of the abandoned NUJ secretariat one of its priorities within the first 100 days.
According to him, the pledge reflects his broader commitment to people-centred governance, which he said would give due attention to institutions and professionals whose activities contribute significantly to the development of society.
The PDP governorship candidate also reiterated his position that the media should be treated as a critical stakeholder and partner in democratic governance, rather than being viewed merely as a platform for political campaigns.
He maintained that journalists play a vital role in holding government accountable, informing citizens and ensuring that issues affecting the welfare and interests of the people remain central to public administration.
Anosike’s promise comes amid heightened political activities in Abia ahead of the 2027 governorship election, as political parties and candidates continue to engage different professional groups, institutions and stakeholders across the state.
