National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA is calling on government, especially Abia state and other stakeholders to assist them with logistics to enable them operate in the rural areas and Abia State at large.
The call is coming as Nigeria joins the globe to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked on 26 June every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
From research, the relationship between alcohol and illegal drugs, crime, and violence is both direct and complex. In 2007, more than 47% of victims of homicide tested positively for alcohol at the time of death.
In an interview, the deputy commander of Narcotics, acting state commander, Abia state command, MacLean Monday Ibani says this year’s theme, “Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises” is in tandem with the united nations under the office of drug abuse and crime that selected the theme for people to remember and also acknowledge that when people are in humanitarian crisis, there is also the tendency for people to always resolving to alcohol and other substance abuse.

According to him, the agency has done periodic sensitization to enable the public understand the dangers associated with hard drugs and the need to avoid the use of hard drugs.
He emphasized that NDLEA is not relenting to arrest any person sabotaging their efforts and also prosecution of drug traffickers and peddlers, including uniform men aiding and abetting crime which is inline with the constitution establishing them.
While soliciting more support from government, as well as good spirited individuals, Mr Maclean Ibani appealed to traditional heads, faith based organisations and community leaders to furnish them with more credible information to enable them serve the society better.
His words, “with the coming of our new chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), OFR, every person can see his effort to sanitize not only the agency to great extent and you know drug is a problem, we can’t finish fighting alone but to an extent we are taking it down to an extent for things to drive in the society”
“Parents should watch what their children are doing and they should not be pampering them.
Mr Ibani also explained that their efforts to reduce the peddling and intake of
Methamphetamine
(mkpuru mmiri) in the state and beyond. The acting command said they have recorded much achievements with the corporation of sister’s agency.
He however lamented that hard drugs is a problem in the society, because most criminals perpetrate their crime after patronizing hard drugs.
