Abia State government has been strongly advised to relocate or provide Omuma Uzo cattle market to an enclosed area with appropriate security to give traders and their customers needed protection.
Abia state chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Reverend Augustine Ehimere who gave the advice in a press release made available to newsmen, noted that it is obvious that the arrival of the “Ahia Udele ” market in Omuma Uzo may serve to expose the people of Omuma Uzo or the entire Ukwa land to the criminality and alleged menace of Fulani herdsmen.
In the face of all of these, he noted that it is most painful that the government of Governor Ikpeazu may be indirectly turning
Omuma uzo and adjoining communities within Ukwa land into a theatre of violence by his decision to relocate the “Ahia Udele” cow market from Ogbor hill in Aba given the violence that has recently trailed that project.
The release noted that it is disturbing in a time like this, PDP stalwarts, elected representatives and Government appointees from Ukwa have refused to stand for their people and have gone into hiding.
According to him, the degree of infrastructural collapse and non availability of infrastructural development in Ukwa has become unacceptable, adding that there is no motorable road from Obehie to Azumini, just as movement within Ukwa East and West is a nightmare.
While condemning this needless violence and condole with the families of all who lost their lives, Ehimere requested Abia State government to unravel the circumstances leading to this ugly occurrence and bring the perpetrators to book, adding that Ukwa land needs its peace and nothing should be done to upset it.
He therefore called on the government of Abia State and the PDP ruling class in Abia State to end the alleged deliberate and intentional marginalization of the Ukwa people.
His words, “The ASOPADEC has been reduced to a mere conduit for appointments and varied patronages to political cronies of the PDP ruling class”.
“This farms and the farmers themselves are now threatened by the presence of this repackaged project given the disposition of these herdsmen to law and order”.
