Scary fire Tuesday evening engulfed a truck loaded with inflammable material suspected to be diesel impounded at the front of the Federal High court Umuahia, located at Ogurube Layout, near new zone 9 police headquarters.
Our correspondent reports that it took fire fighters upto three hours to subdue the thick fire.
However, it was the prompt intervention of the men of the state fire service and federal fire service that prevented the fire from damaging other properties including the federal high court building.
Meanwhile, a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity allegedly said the court had earlier Tuesday 25th January, 2022 granted bail and settled the case that prompted the impounding of the truck.
“It was at the moment of transferring the gas from the impounded truck to another one which refused to start, that fire ignited from the pumping machine” cause of the inferno has not been ascertained, as at the time of filing this report.
The source also told National Watch that it was the workers of CBN Umuahia that assisted them by allowing fire service workers to fetch water from their water tank.
According to the source, the fire also burnt tyres of other trucks parked within. ” When the fire came after a spark, the owner of the truck that came to Transload ran away”.
While the fire lasted, the Chief of staff to the Governor, Anthony Agbazuere, AIG zone 9 and state Commissioner of police, state Director DSS were also on hand to ensure that the inferno was put off.
