President of Globe Legislators International, Rt. Hon. Sir Sam I. Onuigbo, FCIS, FNIM, KJW, has called on stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intensify their efforts towards securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the 2027 general elections.
Onuigbo made the call during a stakeholders’ engagement to flag off the campaign for the re-election of President Tinubu, held at his country home, Odozi Obodo Hills, Obuohia Obi-Ibere, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, on August 28, 2026.
He expressed deep appreciation to the stakeholders for their presence and support, describing their participation as an eloquent testimony to their collective determination to work assiduously for the actualisation of President Tinubu’s second term.
While appreciating their unalloyed support, Onuigbo urged them to adopt a more committed approach to the campaign, stressing that there were several compelling reasons why members of the party should remain focused on securing the President’s re-election.
According to him, the stakes are now higher than when they joined the APC, particularly because of the bold and courageous reforms initiated by President Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said President Tinubu deserved the support of every genuine APC member and every Nigerian, insisting that it was their collective responsibility to work hard to ensure his victory in the January 16, 2027 presidential election, so that he could consolidate on the foundation already laid.
Onuigbo noted that President Tinubu campaigned on strong policies, including ending the parallel exchange rate market, making Nigeria a preferred destination for Foreign Direct Investment, ending fuel subsidies which he said benefited less than one percent of the population, diversifying the economy and promoting inclusive governance.
He recalled that President Tinubu took decisive action to end fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023, the day he was sworn in as President, despite strong criticism from the opposition.
According to him, three years into the administration, Federation Account Allocation Committee funds distributed to the three tiers of government had risen from N711 billion in 2023 to N4.5 trillion in 2026.
He said governors were now receiving about five times more from FAAC than they received under previous administrations, adding that the increased fiscal inflows had contributed to rapid development across local governments in Abia State and other parts of the country.
Onuigbo also cited the increase in Nigeria’s refining capacity from 30,000 barrels per day in 2023 to more than 700,000 barrels per day in 2026, as well as the rise in crude oil production from about 1.3 million barrels per day in 2023 to more than 1.73 million barrels per day.
He further noted that the nation’s foreign reserves had increased from 3.99 billion dollars in 2023 to 51.9 billion dollars in 2026, while more than N300 billion had been invested in the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.
The former lawmaker said President Tinubu’s foreign trips had attracted more than 50 billion dollars in foreign direct investment, including 20 billion dollars in 2026 alone.
He attributed the development to the administration’s policy of eliminating the parallel exchange rate market, which he said had previously discouraged foreign investors, adding that improved economic and exchange-rate stability had earned the President international commendation.
Onuigbo described the reported growth of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, from 2.74 percent in 2023 to 3.9 percent in the first half of 2026 as heartwarming, saying the growth occurred despite the disruptive war between Iran and the United States.
He observed that the growth was driven largely by the non-oil sector, including financial technology, agriculture and solid minerals, describing it as evidence that the administration’s economic diversification policies were yielding results.
The Globe Legislators International President also commended President Tinubu for what he described as inclusive governance in the Southeast.
He listed the successive appointments of two service chiefs from the Southeast, Vice Admiral Ogalla and the current Air Vice Marshal Aneke; the establishment of the South East Development Commission, SEDC; the creation of new tertiary institutions in different parts of the region; and the proposed rail network linking Enugu to Port Harcourt.
Other projects he attributed to the administration include the approval and ongoing construction of Abia Airport, expansion of the Enugu and Owerri airports, as well as the approval granted to Southeast governors to reconstruct some federal roads for quicker delivery, with subsequent reimbursement.
Onuigbo said he was particularly grateful to President Tinubu for restoring delisted management courses at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, after eight years of uncertainty.
He said the decision had created opportunities for students in the zone, saved existing jobs and opened avenues for new employment in Ikwuano Local Government Area, Abia State and the wider Southeast region.
He also described the ongoing construction of the Federal Secretariat at Ekeoba Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area, 35 years after the creation of Abia State, as the “jewel in the crown,” noting that he facilitated both projects to the glory of God.
The former lawmaker further commended President Tinubu for reconstructing major federal roads across the Southeast, saying the projects would improve connectivity and economic activities in the region.
Onuigbo maintained that President Tinubu had done remarkably well in repositioning Nigeria within the global economy, although he acknowledged that the country remained a “work-in-progress.”
He therefore urged APC stakeholders to brace up for more hard work through the campaign, stressing that they were all partners in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
On his part, Onuigbo pledged to continue projecting the APC and preserving the ideals of good governance, while supporting the consolidation of President Tinubu’s reforms.
Quoting the scripture that “better is the end of a matter than the beginning,” he said President Tinubu’s second term should mean more to every APC stakeholder than personal political progression.
He urged stakeholders to put aside their senatorial ambitions for the moment and prepare for the journey ahead, which he said must centre on securing President Tinubu’s re-election and strengthening the APC.
Onuigbo expressed special appreciation to stakeholders for their individual and collective efforts and support during his senatorial campaign, as well as their contribution to promoting the APC as a party of choice among the people.
He prayed that God would continue to protect them from what he described as negative human manipulation, urging them to remain confident that better things lay ahead after the pains and disappointments of the past senatorial campaign.
