Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has been called to verify facts about Ikwuano and Abia state politics to have the records straight following his allegation that the member representing Ikwuano Umuahia North-south federal constituency, Sam Onuigbo left PDP because, the national organising secretary of PDP, Augustine Akobundu denied Onuigbo control of his ward during the last PDP ward congress.
Briefing newsmen in Umuahia over Governor Wike’s statement, the PDP Ikwuano caucus led by retired Rear admiral Ralph Osundu explained that Sam Onuigbo left PDP because of his personal ambitions.
Admiral Osundu who was flanked by other members of the caucus including PDP chairman of Ikwuano, Chief Steven Mpamugo, Ezinne Ngozi Orji, elder Henry Nwaoha, Hon Theophilus Ugbaja among others, disclosed that Sam Onuigbo went to the court after he could not have his way during ward and local government congresses and also lost in the court, adding that Onuigbo was angry because he wanted to control greater percentage of officers during the local government election, and later decamped to all progressive congress, APC.
While saying that Austine Akobundu has not informed them if he has governorship ambition, the caucus said they still love Onuigbo, stressing that efforts made to let him (Onuigbo) see seasons to remain in people’s democratic party, PDP proved abortive.
On the basis of the above, the caucus said “His Excellency Gov. Nyesom Wike is hereby invited to note that Ikwuano LGA conducted it’s last PDP Congresses in orderly manner without external interference either from Col Akobundu or any other political leader in Abia State”
To this extent, “every Ward in our Local government Area is calm and peaceful. We therefore strongly advice his Excellency, Gov. Nyesom Wike to desist from interfering in the political affairs of Ikwuano LGA in particular and Abia State in general”.
According to them, the fact that Abia State has a sitting Governor who is the leader of the party (PDP) in the state, Gov. Wike is therefore advised to restrict himself to the political affairs of Rivers State and stop dabbling into issues he is not properly informed of in other states.
