PDP Presidential aspirant and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi says Nigeria is collapsing because of daily criminality especially killings, poor economic management and frowned that the federal government is not bothered about the whole ugly trend.
Obi who was addressing People’s Democratic Party State working committee and delegates in Umuahia, Abia state, said what is happening in Nigeria is the cumulative effects of leadership failure caused by present and previous governments, which will not get better if no attended to.
According to him, no country like Nigeria with over two hundred million population will not face the challenges what the country is facing now, when over 98 million people are under poverty ratio, including those without job.
He added that over sixty percent of Nigerians are not doing anything even after schooling, disclosing that fifteen million Nigerians are out of school.
The former Governor of Anambra State said Nigerian’s debt cannot be paid because the country borrows for consumption and not for production, while the debt has risen to fifty three trillion.
Obi pointed out that for Nigeria to fight insecurity, people must have means of livelihood and promised to make Nigeria productive to enable it work again, while sharing ofoney borrowed need to stop. He advocated that Nigeria also needs to cut cost of governance.
He therefore, urged PDP delegates not to look at him, who is successful in life or look at money, but to look at the crisis of Nigeria, the future of their children because every position is temporal.
Responding, the state chairman of PDP in Abia State, Rt Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere describes Peter Obi as the pride of Igbo man and a good product.
Okere urged Obi to continue with his gospel and stated that at the appointed time, Abia will speak.
Earlier, the former spokesperson to Chief Olusengun Obasanjo, Chief Doyin Okupe who accompanied Peter Obi to Umuahia, disclosed that he ended his presidential race to support Obi whom he itentified as the best man for Nigeria.
In 2023, Okupe said Nigerians should elect someone who can fix the rot instituted by APC federal government.
He added that Mr Peter Obi is the champion of all the PDP presidential aspirants and maintained that Obi parades arrays of qualifications from reputable institutions within and outside Nigeria, has good administrative records and former top ranking management of Fidelity bank and other institutions.
