The Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and member Representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Ifeanyi Uchendu and the Majority Leader and Member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu yesterday narrowly escaped impeachment by members of the house.
The motion for the immediate removal or suspension of the duo were moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Paul Taribo representing Ukwa East State Constituency and Seconded by the Minority leader, Chijioke Chukwu representing Bende North State Constituency.
The deputy majority leader said the motion followed the inability of the deputy speaker and the majority leader to perform creditably and dutifully their statutory roles as principal officers of the house especially as it concerns the welfare of members.
The motion maintained that the two members of the house have under performed and have lost the confidence of the house, and insists for the immediate suspension or removal of the the Deputy Speaker and the Majority leader as principal officers.
The move which was thrown open for debate and considerations threw the house into pandemonium while the speaker argued that their reasons were lame for removal of principal officers.
The speaker after several heated arguments and counter arguments adjourned plenary indefinitely.
