The people’s democratic party, PDP Abia State has vowed to commit to transparent primaries under the watch of cameras to regain their lost glory.
The state chairman of PDP, Elder Ama Abraham made the promise during Abia North PDP meeting held at Honourable Uko Nkole country home Abam Arochukwu.
Ama among numerous stakeholders who spoke during the gathering said the aim was to unite members and move forward.
According to the party chairman, PDP lost the 2023 governorship election because of wrong choice of candidates at some levels.
While pleading with party members to forget the past to enable them reclaim their mandate in 2027, Ama Abraham insisted that the party did not do very bad with the number of law makers they won.
He also promised that the party state working committee down to local governments would not coordinate for candidates and would not allow what happened previously to happen again during primaries.
Ama Abraham added that PDP lost 2027 governorship seat because of Obi wave and other factors. He therefore appealed that they forgive themselves and remain focused, committed because PDP remain a strong opposition party both in Abia and Nigeria at large.
The host of the meeting and former house member that represented Arochukwu/Ohafia federal, Uko Nkole urged the state party chairman to walk his talk.
Nkole observed that PDP was turned to a breeding house because both the current senate president, Godswill Akpabio, deputy speaker house of representative, Benjamin Kalu, Governor Alex Otti were members of PDP before they left for other parties.
He thanked former secretary to the state government of Abia State, Dr Eme Okoro for standing on the part of truth, adding that if the PDP governorahip ticked was given to Abia North, they would have done better in the 2023 general election in Abia.
Hon Uko Nkole stressed that injustice anywhere can never produce good result and appealed to PDP to come back as a family.
In his speech, former secretary to Abia state government, Dr Eme Okoro charged the party to exploit their capacity and learn to forgive.
Dr Okoro re-echoed that he is still a card carrying member of PDP and called on members of the party to rehabilitate themselves for greater results.
The zonal chairman of PDP in Abia North, Gabriel Okereke Elendu, Hon Lucky Johnson for Isuikwuato state Constituency, Nnamdi Ibekwe for Bende North State Constituency said the meeting marked the beginning of PDP reconciliation in Abia North.
They joined their voices to call for forgiveness and work for the future, assuring that those who did not believe in them now, will later come back.
The law makers further appealed to members to believe in the party state chairman, Elder Ama Abraham.
Ex officio member of state PDP exco and chairman Umunneochi reconciliation committee, Dr Amobi Uwaezuoke disclosed efforts made to bring back aggrieved members including Chief Odinaka Igwe who gave them support.
The State Publicity Secretary, Chief Eric Ikwuagwu commended the party stakeholders for honouring the invitation and assured that the state working committee will do their best to reposition the party.
Other stakeholders who attended the meeting were former commissioners and past Government officials , Chairmanship & Vice Chairmanship candidates in the last local government elections from the zone.
