Former Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, has express his intention to lead Abia under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to build a government anchored on transparency, inclusiveness, and grassroots development.
Chief Mascot made the annoucement while addressing APC members in Umuahia, where he also acknowledged that although some progress has been made under Governor Alex Otti’s administration, it still falls short of the lofty promises made during the 2023 campaign.
According to him, “Abia and Abians deserve more — especially the grassroots people, civil servants, pensioners, and traders. What our state needs is a government built on transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and one that serves all without leaving anyone behind.”
He expressed readiness to lead Abia State, saying, “I stand before you all to declare my interest in seeking the governorship ticket of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, for the 2027 election.”
Chief Mascot outlined his mission to unify Abians and build a prosperous, all-inclusive state where opportunities abound for everyone, regardless of political affiliation or social status. He pledged to leverage President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to deliver the dividends of democracy across the grassroots.
“Our journey is not about politics as usual. It is a call to serve — to restore empathy in leadership and reconnect with both the poor and the rich. We will create a system that keeps promises, ensures transparency, and empowers local governments to function independently,” he said.
He further promised to revive the era when local governments were visibly active in road construction, water provision, and community development. Chief Mascot also emphasized job creation through economic reforms, youth empowerment, and partnership with financial institutions.
Calling for unity among party members and Abians, he added, “Let us build an Abia that works for all, not just for some. Our project is anchored on God, guided by faith and perseverance.”
Earlier in their goodwill messages, Barr. Perfect Okorie, Barr. Ndukwe Peter, Chief (Mrs.) Ezinne Udo Udoma, Ojisi Iro Ogbaja, and Mrs. Dinma Ezinne described Chief Mascot as a compassionate leader with the people’s interest at heart. They prayed for God to grant him success and pledged their full support for his governorship ambition.
