The Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia Zone, Catechist Ambrose Jonah, has called on President-Generals of communities across the zone to take an active role in protecting roads constructed by the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
In a statement made available to journalists, Jonah warned that the agency would arrest and prosecute anyone found scooping sand from road gutters without properly evacuating it, describing the practice as harmful to public infrastructure and road maintenance.
He urged community leaders to mobilize residents to safeguard government projects by sustaining regular environmental sanitation exercises and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility.
Jonah also appealed to residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, emphasizing that proper waste disposal is crucial to maintaining a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
Reaffirming ASEPA’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and promoting environmental cleanliness, Jonah called for the continued cooperation of community leaders and residents in preserving government projects for the benefit of present and future generations.
