The Abia State Government has reiterated its commitment to the continued development of Government College Umuahia as part of its education policy.
A representative of the state government on the Fisher Education Trust Fund Board and General Manager of Umuahia Capital Development Authority, Mr. Kingsley Agomoh, made this known during the FETF/School Management Council meeting held at the college. He commended the Old Boys of Government College Umuahia for their significant investments toward the institution’s growth.
Mr. Agomoh expressed satisfaction with the ongoing infrastructural upgrades in the college, stressing that the importance of education cannot be overstated. He also praised the cordial relationship between the Fisher Education Trust Fund Board and the School Management Council.
He advised the public to desist from encroaching on school lands across the state and urged prospective land buyers to make proper inquiries before purchasing property.
Also speaking, members of the Fisher Education Trust Fund Board, Justice Obisike Orji (Rtd), Dr. Okey Madukwe, and Secretary of the School Management Council, Dr. Obi Okoye, lauded the infrastructural improvements at the college. They commended the state government for entrusting the Old Boys with responsibilities that have contributed to the institution’s progress.
The stakeholders further praised the administration of Governor Alex Otti for creating an enabling environment that encourages individuals and groups to contribute to the state’s development.
They noted that the college is steadily regaining its leading position and appreciated the government’s continued support.
The meeting featured an inspection of ongoing projects, including the fencing of the college and the upgrading of the assembly hall.
