The Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, has reassured the management of Federal Government Unity Schools in the state of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property and educational infrastructure.
Commandant Odimba gave the assurance at the Federal Government College (FGC), Ohafia, during the conclusion of his security assessment tour of Federal Unity Schools in Abia State.

Speaking during the visit, the Commandant stated that the protection of students remains a top priority for the Corps, noting that the inspection tour was in line with the directives of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, aimed at strengthening security arrangements in Unity Schools across the country.
According to him, the National Safe School Initiative of the Federal Government, which is being implemented by the NSCDC, is designed to ensure the safety of staff, students, learning facilities and the overall academic environment.
The Head of Media and Public Relations for the State Commandant, CSC Ndukwe Agu Egwu, disclosed that the Commandant informed the school management that surveillance and patrol activities within the schools would be intensified.
He added that a detachment of the command’s Counter Terrorism Unit would be deployed to work closely with the school principal and Chief Security Officer to improve security coordination within the colleges.
The State Commandant also offered training opportunities for nominated personnel from the schools as part of the command’s planned security training programme aimed at enhancing modern security techniques and strengthening internal security structures.
Commandant Odimba assured the school authorities that the command would respond promptly to any distress calls from the colleges.
He commended the principals for maintaining clean and conducive learning environments and advised them to remain vigilant against early signs of cultism and other negative behaviours among students.
Responding, the Principal of Federal Government College, Ohafia, Mr. Chukwuemeka M. Ezeoba, thanked the NSCDC commandant and his team for their concern and commitment towards the security of the institution.
He noted that the visit had boosted the confidence of staff and students and reassured the public that government remains committed to the protection of educational institutions.
Earlier in the week, the Abia NSCDC boss had paid a similar visit to the Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, where he held discussions with the Principal, Mrs. Umunnakwe Joy, and her management team on strategies to strengthen security within the school.

The command expressed optimism that the proactive measures already put in place would help sustain a peaceful and secure learning atmosphere in the Unity Schools across the state.
