The Abia State Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection has expressed deep regret and condemnation over the tragic incident in Umunga Amakama Olokoro community, in Umuahia South Local Government Area, where a man identified as Chinedu Anamelechi allegedly killed his wife’s friend and injured two others.
In a press statement titled “Heartbroken by the Tragic Loss of Lives in Amakama Community, Olokoro,” signed by the Commissioner, Mrs. Ngozi Blessing Felix, the ministry extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Olokoro community.
The Commissioner described the incident as a devastating act of violence that has left the community in shock and grief, noting that the government’s thoughts are with all those affected.
Mrs. Felix assured that the ministry is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served.
She further stated that, in line with the government’s responsibility to protect vulnerable citizens, the ministry will collaborate with relevant agencies to identify affected individuals and families, with a view to providing immediate support, assistance, and necessary interventions to help them cope with the loss.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Abia State Government under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti to peace, human dignity, and the protection of lives, the Commissioner called on community and religious leaders, civil society organisations, and residents to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
She stressed that violence must never be seen as a solution to conflict, adding that the state government stands in solidarity with the people of Olokoro in this difficult time.
