Twenty four hours to the commencement of APC Senate primary election, a pressure group has urged stakeholders of the party to cede the Abia North Senate Seat to Arochukwu LGA to ensure victory for the party in the main election.
The group, Old Bende Political Forum made the passionate appeal in Ohafia, saying that returning the ticket to Bende LGA may spell political defeat for APC.
In a statement by the Chairman,Rev Ama Nwankwo ,the group noted that of the three federal Constituencies that make up the senatorial zone, Arochukwu/ Ohafia has been marginalised while even under that Constituency, Arochukwu LGA had been emasculated politically.
According to the group, whereas Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi federal Constituency has been to the Senate for four times, Bende for two, Arochukwu/ Ohafia had been for only one term.
It noted that balancing power through equitable sharing by allowing Arochukwu LGA in the person of Dr Philips Nto to emerge the next Senator was the only way to deliver APC.
It maintained that it would amount to gross injustice to allow Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to return to the Senate for the third time even after being a governor of Abia State for two terms.
It described Dr Philips Nto as a worthy successor to the Senate seat given his intellectual background and experience in government as a commissioner.
” If it comes to merit, it favours Dr Philips Nto. If we come to zoning and equity, it still favours him.
We should therefore use this opportunity to crown him as the APC flag bearer tomorrow to make our victory in the main election, easier “, they submitted.
