Former ABSU VC Picks PDP Guber Ticket in Abia

The Former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Professor Uche Ikonne has been elected the Governorship flag bearer of People’s Democratic Party in Abia State.
Chairman of Abia State Governorship electoral Committee and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose declared professor Ikonne winner, having polled 468 votes to defeat other aspirants.
According to Fayose, the election recorded eight void votes, Lucky Igbokwe got forty five votes, senator Enyi Abaribe five votes, Enyinna Nwafor four votes, Sampson Orji four votes, deputy governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu six votes, senator Emma Nwaka four votes, Ncheta Omerekpe three votes,  Ezenwanyi Jonah five votes and Professor Greg Ibe who defected to APGA about two months ago got two votes. 
In his acceptance speech, the PDP governorship flag bearer for Abia, Professor Uche Ikonne thanked God for the election and the vehicle, the PDP that gave him their platform to contest, as well as all Abians for their overwhelming support.
Professor Ikonne who is a professor of Optometry promised to address the challenges facing the state including infrastructure, pledging to accommodate all in his government if elected in the secondary election and also promised to provide jobs for women and youths.

National Watch captured that out of nine aspirants who bought expression of interest and nomination forms in PDP, six withdrew before the governorship primaries. They include the deputy governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Senator Enyinna Abaribe, Senator Emma Nwaka, Mr Ncheta Omerekpe, Mr Chima Nwafor and Hon Sampson Orji.
