OPAH PROMISES SALARY INCREASE FOR ABIA WORKERS, RETURN OF PRIVATE MOTOR PARKS, ABOLITION OF EIGHT-YEAR RETIREMENT RULE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Chief Eric Chinemeucheya Opah, has promised to increase the salaries of Abia workers, restore privately owned motor parks to compete with government-owned bus terminals, abolish the eight-year premature retirement rule for directors in the state civil service and promote unity across the state if elected governor in 2027.

Opah made the promises during a press conference held at his campaign headquarters on Azikiwe Road, Umuahia.

He said his proposed administration would prioritise workers’ welfare, protect private-sector investments and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The APC candidate pledged to increase the salaries of Abia workers as part of measures to improve their standard of living, boost morale and enhance productivity in the state workforce.

He also promised to abolish the eight-year retirement policy affecting directors in the state civil service, arguing that workers should not be forced into premature retirement after years of dedicated service.

On transportation, Opah promised to restore privately operated motor parks to compete with government-owned bus terminals, explaining that healthy competition between private and government operators would help reduce transportation costs, provide commuters with more affordable choices and improve service delivery across Abia State.

He stressed that government should create an enabling environment for private-sector participation rather than monopolise commercial transportation infrastructure.

Opah further emphasised the need to unite Abia people, irrespective of political, ethnic or religious differences, pledging to run an inclusive administration that would serve the collective interests of the state.

He maintained that his vision was to build a united, economically vibrant and prosperous Abia where workers, business owners, transport operators and ordinary citizens would have opportunities to thrive.
