Parents, faith based organisations, admission seekers, as well as the general public wishing to further their education have been urged to take advantage of the first private University in Umuahia, Lux Mundi University to achieve their academic purposes.
The founder and Pro-Chancellor, Professor Gabriel Obiamaraije Chinedu Okenwa stated this, while unveiling the license of the institution to newsmen and other stakeholders in Umuahia, said he was inspired by God to establish the University.
He said it was Gods Grace and willingness for the University to come to bear. Professor Okenwa who revealed how he laboured to go to secondary school, said it was difficult for him to pay his school fees. According to him, it was the Grace of God that help came his way through Rev Fr Donatus Okpokpo to graduate from Methodist College Uzuakoali.
He commended Akomas and Agomuo families in Afara that donated plots of lands to support the University, apart from the ones he paid for. Professor Okenwa also assured that his partners both in Nigeria and abroad have promised to sponsor some of the students with good grades.
The acting dean, faculty of management sciences, Professor Green Eleagu said the courses under the college will revolve around entrepreneurship and Information and communication technologies. He assured that their fees are affordable.
On his part, the acting dean, faculty of Arts and social sciences, Professor Bob Mbakwe encouraged the public to visit Lux mundi University and enrol the courses of their choice. He urged people to patronise the University, by bringing their children who are seeking for admission.
The immediate past State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Emmanuel Agomuo advised stakeholders present at the gathering to sale the University to churches.
The Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko while receiving the University license, said that honesty pays and advised people to embrace honesty, just like Professor Okenwa. He advised Professor Okenwa to immortalize the families that donated lands for the University, including Reverend Father Donatus Okpokpo who guided Okenwa l through secondary school.
The Catholic Bishop of Umuahia, Most Rev Michael Kalu Ukpong, represented by Rev Fr Maduka thanked Professor Okenwa for anwsering Gods call to serve the society. He linkened Professor Okenwa to Samuel who anwsered God’s call to help build a better society.
Ukpong appreciated the founder of Lux Mundi University for obeying the voice of God and prayed God to expand his efforts.
The Chairman penticostal fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Archbishop Chikezie Elekwa promised numerical strenght support to the University. On his part, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia diocese, Bishop Geoffrey charged the University to ensure that the standards is achieved and sustained.
Meanwhile, prominent traditional rulers and other dignitaries were present during the ceremony.
