Stakeholders Urge Farmers To Embrace Digital Skills and Cue Into SEED Tracker

The most senior director at the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, Dr Godwin Asomugha has encouraged farmers to embrace technology to enable relevant stakeholders have access to their farms through GPRS. 
Dr Asomugha who is the training coordinator stated this during a three day  innovation platform for Cassava Stakeholders and Refresher training for first set of cassava SEED ENTREPRENEURS for Business Development and Stabilize SEED Association involving Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Imo States held in Umuahia.
According to Dr Asomugha, cassava SEED tracker is the talk of the day and charged farmers especially those at the training who have not logged in the Cassava SEED tracker to do so.

He maintained that the refreshers training sponsored by international institute of tropical agriculture, IITA was designed for those trained in 2017 to correct what is lacking in the field, which would also assist to arrest food insecurity.
The event was aimed on Building an economically sustainable integrated Cassava SEED system in Nigeria, phase 2.
“Dr Asomugha said the workshop will fill gaps the project sponsors discovered.
For you to have your feed satisfied, it must be visited and supervised. While the training will address a post harvest handling as they were thought in 2017″.
“He disclosed that they have a criteria to select a cassava SEED ENTREPRENEUR, and those serious must have land, must be planting improved cassava varieties without mixup to avoid disqualification by council”

The director biotechnology, NRCRI, Dr Joseph Onyeka, said their desire was to ensure that the participants would  make profits when they harvest. 
He explained that the target was also to empower them through agriculture, therefore, the benefits of the training cannot be overemphasized.
One of the participants and Abia State manager, Agricultural Development Program, Chief Israel Amanze told newsmen that what is happening in Nigeria is a wake up call for people including farmers to take farming more serious.

Amanze commended the organisers of the refreshing training, adding that the workshop will help the participants re-adjust their performance.
He revealed that Abia ADP will benefit immensely from the training.
