2022 Workers Day: Abia Labour Leaders Unhappy Over State Govt Poor Treatment to Workers & Pensioners

The President of Vision Africa International, Bishop Dr Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha has received Ambassador of Faith Award bestowed on  him by Abia State council of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC during the 2022 celebration of workers day held at Kolping Society Umuahia.
The labour force said Bishop Onuoha qualified for the award in recognition and appreciation of his numerous efforts in propagating peace in Nigeria, among other considerations.
In his speech, the vice chairman of Abia State Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, comrade Hope Ekwuruibe said they decided to celebrate the 2022 workers day in a low key based on the reality of the moment and called on Abia state government to pay attention to pensioners and some agencies whose salaries are not upto date.
According to Ekwuruibe, instead of having their usual match pass, dancing and others, they opted for a symposium based on the theme of 2022  workers day. 
He added that the symposium will help them do assessment, that will spur into stronger unions and of course labour centre, that will engage the government effectively for governance, for the benefit of their members and the people.
Ekwuruibe pointed that the theme of this year’s workers day,”Labour, Politics, Good Governance and Development in Nigeria ” is apt, particularly with state of the economy of Nigeria and it’s effect on the welfare of the people.
He maintained that with 2023 elections around the corner, this is a time of stock taking, adding that it is a general consensus that various tiers of government in the country have not performed below expectation.
Responding after receiving the Award, Bishop Sunday Onuoha represented by the station manager of Vision Africa Radio, Mr Charles Iheanacho thanked Abia NLC for the honour done him. He added that the labour force has built a very strong bridge with the award presented to him.

However, Uchenna Obigwe faction of NLC had briefed some journalists at NLC premises Aba road Umuahia. Obigwe maintained that it is disheartening after several calls and appeal to Abia State government to clear arrears and pensions owe to workers.
According to him, State government had insisted that the 2022 workers day in Abia be observed in low key due to security issues and Covid 19 pandemic.
