The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Mr. Ogbonnia Okereke, has described the newly renamed Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal in Umuahia as a major driver of economic development in Abia State.
Mr. Okereke made the remark on Friday during an inspection tour of the terminal to assess the level of sanitation facilities and waste management equipment installed for passengers and visitors.
The ASEPA boss recalled that he had earlier visited the terminal to develop a comprehensive waste management plan, noting that the latest inspection was aimed at finalizing the sanitation and waste disposal framework for the facility.
Accompanied by the Deputy General Manager, Umuahia Zone, Catechist Ambrose Jonah, and the Director of Operations, Mr. Chidiebere Ogbuehi, Okereke expressed satisfaction with the transformation taking place across the state under the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

He said the present government has continued to introduce modern innovations in different sectors of the economy, adding that the bus terminal reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and environmental sustainability.
Responding, the Project Manager of Planet Project Limited, Mr. Shola Adekpoju, stated that the management places high priority on the effective operation and maintenance of the terminal, stressing that proper waste management is essential to healthy living.
Adekpoju described the ASEPA visit as timely and necessary, assuring that all sanitation installations and facilities would be completed within the shortest possible time.
According to him, efficient waste generation, collection, and evacuation systems are critical to maintaining a clean and safe environment for commuters and other users of the terminal.
He further identified some of the key facilities at the terminal to include the ticket bay, waiting area, and departure lounge.
