The Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abia State Chapter, Comrade David Onyebuchi Amalaha, has called on actors to extend their influence beyond the screen by contributing meaningfully to the development of their communities and society.
Amalaha made the call on Wednesday in Umuahia during activities marking the 2026 International Actors Day, which featured a sanitation exercise embarked upon by filmmakers and members of the guild.
Speaking at the event, the AGN chairman welcomed actors, veterans, filmmakers, producers, directors, stakeholders, fans and lovers of the creative arts, describing the celebration as an opportunity to recognise the passion, sacrifice, resilience and creativity of actors across the world.
He said actors have responsibilities beyond appearing before the camera or performing on stage, noting that they are storytellers, culture bearers and agents of social transformation.
According to him, actors use their performances to preserve history, promote cultural heritage, address social issues and give voice to individuals and communities whose stories deserve to be heard.
He said the 2026 celebration should therefore remind members of the guild that their influence must extend beyond entertainment to their communities and society at large.
Amalaha stated that the Abia State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, under his leadership, remained committed to building a stronger, more united and professional guild where members would have opportunities to grow and contribute meaningfully.
He listed capacity building, mentorship, professionalism, members’ welfare, collaboration and creation of opportunities as some of the areas the guild would continue to promote.
The AGN chairman also acknowledged the contributions of veteran actors, describing their sacrifices as the foundation upon which the present generation of actors continues to build.
He said this year’s celebration was equally a call to service, urging actors to contribute to community development through humanitarian activities, environmental awareness, public enlightenment, talent development and other initiatives capable of improving the lives of the people.
“Our greatest legacy will not only be the characters we portray, but also the positive impact we make on humanity,” he said.
Amalaha appreciated the Abia State Government, the people of the state, partners, stakeholders, media practitioners and other supporters for their contributions to the growth of the creative industry.
He particularly commended members of the guild for their commitment, resilience and cooperation as efforts continue to reposition the AGN Abia State Chapter as a vibrant, united and impactful professional body.
On behalf of the State Executive Council, Amalaha congratulated all actors in Abia State and Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 International Actors Day.
He urged actors to continue telling stories that inspire hope, promote unity and transform lives, stressing that the guild would work to take its activities beyond the screen and make lasting contributions to communities.
He ended by wishing members a happy 2026 International Actors Day.
